Default Wine, Cheese, and Cards?

Reading this title, you might think:

What in the world do wine, cheese, and cards have in common? You can't drink cards and cheese, you can't eat cards and wine, and you can't cut wine. So what in the world is this thread about?

I'll tell you what they all have in common: Aging. A finely aged wine and cheese will give you the best results. And as proven so far, so will a finely aged deck of cards.

Let's look at what we know so far. Some of the oldest commonly used cards are Jerry's Nuggets. When reading up on these fabulous cards, I've found out that they were printed on normal bicycle stock, nothing special. They weren't coated differently. At the time of production, they were just normal cards. So what makes them so great? I can't know for sure, but I have a pretty good idea- They've aged. Something about 20,000 decks of cards stuck in a werehouse for 20 years makes them absolutely fantastic. Another example is old studs. I know that they were printed on different material than the new studs. However, I think that the even short amount of aging that they have gone through has made them superior cards.

We also know that putting away old, used cards for a few months makes them like new. People throw away their worn decks, but I've never understood that. I still use the first deck of league backed cards I ever bought frequently. Every time I seem to suck the life out of it, I put it in a box and forget about it, and then bring it back out, like new.

Now, how do we apply this? I'll tell you my theory, the reason I posted this thread. We apply this by simply taking a dozen decks of bikes, and stashing them away for 20 years. Simple? Yes. But I've already stashed away a few ghost decks, not to be opened until 2025. When I do open them, I hope that the feel is phenomenal. Another thing we can do is to take our old cards, clamp them down between pieces of wood, and store them in our garage for a few months or a year. I believe that the results will be worth it.

Comments? Thoughts? Should I be put in an institution?

You belong in an institution LOL.

Actually i totally agree and i found this thread quite amusing to read. It seems funny how cards in which were regular once suddenly became so rare and expensive E.G Jerry's Nuggets.

I have already stashed away a box of 12 tally ho decks and they have been stashed away for 2 months = almost 3! Ill check on them when i run out of cards :P

Yes but after all that time how do they fan? these olde tyme aviators I got from CC look like the founding fathers played with em, and they cut better than any new deck. but they fan like a flyswatter.

erm...but does this by any chance have a reference to me? lol nice but then again...would the dirt and sweat on old cards simply get fused together if you put them inbetween blocks of wood?

I think the main thing making fanning a b/tch with Bicycles and Tallys is humidity; sweat to put it another way. That's the reason those decks seem to turn good again if you put them away for a while, because they dry.

Aviators aren't really good for fanning, the finish is way different than the one on Bicycles and Tally Ho's, so that's a pretty good reason why it is the way it is.

I'll see, I'll open this "fused" pack when I get home from school for Thanksgiving.

I still use the first deck of bikes I bought and it works much better than the newer ones.

Gotta agree with this thread. Stashing a few packs of old cards and use them after a few months make the cards better, so I guess stashing them for 20 years should have a better result.

I don't know about the 'fused' pack, perhaps how you store them affects the end result?

Oh btw, you don't belong or should be put in an institution. :P
(PS: for awhile the word institution confuses me, because I'm wondering if you're referring to schools or mental asylum)

maybe we should all get custom made cards printed on bicycle stock and leave them for about 20-30 years and sell them for like 10 times the regular price...

make a kool design and let them get produced.

"Yo, I found some kool "Deckniques" on Ebay" <-- imagine that happening instead of the various decks of Nuggets.
