Arrow Saving Videos from Youtube/Vimeo/etc..

Well if you're anything like me, when ever you see a good video online you want to save it to your Hard Drive to view it again as many times as you want, or save it so you can put it into your ipod. In some cases the creator of the video doesn't have any other way to transfer the video with the exception of putting it up on a video hosting site like Youtube, Vimeo, etc... so in said cases its good to have a way to download the videos from these sites.. but most of these sites don't have an option to download the video so what do we do .. well here are a couple of links i have come across that not only allow you to save the videos but save them to the format that you would like.

From favorite to least favorite:

http://vixy.net/
(will let you save to 5 different media types but no other supported sites listed except Youtube)

http://www.zamzar.com/
(will let you save up to 16 different video types, but unless you have an account there you will have to wait until the site emails you the download link.. this site supports videos from: Youtube, Google Video, Myspace, Revver, PutFile, Break.com, Apple Trailers, Dailymotion, Metacafe, IFilm, Grouper, Blip.tv)

.flv only save option sites:

http://clipnabber.com/
(this supports a massive amount of different sites .. i use it to save Vimeo videos... unfortunately it only allows you the .flv file and not convert it.)

http://keepvid.com/
(similar to the above link but supports less websites)

http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php
(same as Keepvid)

Now for the sites that only allow you to save the videos as .flv files you can do 1 of 2 things ... 1. watch the .flv with VLC player or Media Player Classic or 2. convert the video on your computer.. there are several appz out there that will allow you to do this .. but if all you want to do is convert to ipod videos (which is what i do) this is the small program i use all the time.

Free Video to Ipod Converter
http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products...-Converter.htm

it will allow you to convert not only .flv files but most video files into .MP4 videos for your ipod. I hope this helps some of you out there that want to save your favorite videos from the internet.

**if you have another links that you would like to contribute on here just post and I'll update the original this Post**

Cool, thanks C3rb!

Also, for Vimeo videos... if you login there's actually a very convenient Download link towards the bottom right of the page that lets you download the original video, right on its Vimeo page

Um real player really is nice.

Cant convert but works like a charm.

The converter kills the quality a lot though.

i have too many players installed on my pc as it is and adding 1 more just eats up at my HD space.. although it does look like a good solution if you dont mind adding another application on your computer.

A great little utility I use is called UnPlug. It's a Firefox add-on that lets you save any embedded media from a video hosting site. It works with practically every video hosting site including Theory11 Media section. Keep in mind that the media has to be embedded directly into the site for you to be able to download it. For example, the YouTube ebedded media at Theory11 won't download. You'll have to go to the YouTube page and download it from there. Enjoy!

One wonderous tool that I use alot is www.mediaconverter.org. It's able to convert files from your harddisk and from Youtube/video hosting sites' files into any video and audio format you desire. Very convenient and works prefect.

converter is no problem to get (i just have this one on my computer http://www.mediaconverter.org/index.php?s=saconverter), but as for downloader, none of the aforementioned sites can beat this one, http://www.orbitdownloader.com/Use-a...Downloader.htm
basically a software, that can sniff FLV/SWF files from anywhere on the web.

Quick question.... does anyone know how to take mp4 or mov. urls and convert them onto iTunes, for example how could you convert a link like this http://www.kardkingz.com/videos/hlnewp.mp4 or this http://boneho.com/media/highres/BONE...IOUSANGELS.mov and convert to iTunes? Btw I have a mac if that would help. Any help is appreciated, since I'm not very tech savvy....

well i know that http://www.zamzar.com/ has a feature that allows you to upload the file from your computer to the site and then convert it to what ever formate video you like (in this case .mp4 for your ipod).

go to the link and make sure your on the "Convert Files" tab... click on Browse and select the video file you want to upload. go on to step 2 and select "ipod". go to step 3 and type in your email address and click "Convert" .. it will ask you to confirm and then it will start the upload of your file.. once it has uploaded the site will email you a download link for the converted file. hope this helps.

maybe some of the other ppl on here that use Macs have a program they would recommend for converting files.
