For all you mac users there are also different types of programs:

Tooble

Tubetv

Tubesock

I think for some of these 3 you need a converter. a free converter and compressor is called Isquint. Its really great. compressed from 14 gb to 50 mb
another one is visualhub, which sadly is also not free

I have a mac so im always looking for an alternative

I think I have a better option.
Download the latest Realplayer media player.
It comes with an option to download flash from anywhere.
Yes, youtube, vimeo... Whatever you want.
I use it, it's fast and practical.
Enjoy.

well youtube keep changing stuff that why i think all these websites suck and the way to go is a software that sniffs media links when they start playing, and a local converter on your harddrive.

If websites like vixy stop working because Youtube changes stuff, then your software won't work either ShoeMan. Unless you update it, but I'm pretty sure vixy is just as fast with updating their system - and you don't have to do anything.

the software is not about DLing from youtube, it's about downloading from any site whatsoever.

Anyways, vixy also works on other sites that have a *.flv embedded.

I have no idea where you got confused man..
anyway, I can easily find you many websites where you wont be able to get the videos without such a software, b/c different websites have different ways to protect their vids and stuff..

i just use realplayer. you put your mouse over the video and on the upper right corner i get an option saying download video. it is then saved in my realplayer library. its so easy and organized. this works for anywhere. youtube,metacafe,boneho.com,putfile,etc
